Mountains and glaciers of Olden
I was bound to have a bad night sooner or later, last night was it.....we were all so tired we were in bed before 11 and yes, it was still light! I lay awake for ages and around 3.45......
I sensed the change from the choppy Norwegian Sea to the smooth calm waters as we turned into the Nordfjord, heading towards this mornings port of Olden. Before I knew it, the alarm went off, it was 6.45am so up and into the shower, a bit like a zombie, but onward and upward ;-).
After breakfast in our cabin we headed down to the meeting point for our tour of Kjenndalen Glacier and Lovatnet Lake. Today we are at our most northerly point, and boy could you feel the difference......probably 20 degrees cooler than our sunbathing on Wednesday!!! This fjord is much wider and its mountains are all coated, rather than capped with snow, some freshly fallen last night apparently! We had a motorboat trip up Lake Olden, followed by freshly made waffles with strawberry jam and sour cream, a Norweigan delight, so light and yummy :-). The coaches picked us up and transported us to the foot of the Glacier for more photo opportunities ;-) pity it wasn't as sunny today, the grey and white skies swallowed up the snow capped mountains, other than the odd patch of blue, as you can see in this blip.
By the time we had explored the shops near the harbour we boarded the ship, had a coffee and went back to our cabins. We decided on some exercise so did 10 laps of the promenade deck. At least is was 5000 steps more than we had done!
We set sail again at 5pm this afternoon, heading south towards our final stop in the morning, so the temperature should start to rise a little......it's certainly been cold today!
We are off to watch a show this evening, before a late dinner. I will catch up with you all later.
