Flabbergasting Flam

Today is BiLs 65th birthday, happy birthday Steve :-)

I lay in bed watching what I thought was a mackerel sky through agap in the curtains. Decided to investigate further as it was 6.45! Wow, right there alongside the ship, the Sognefjord in all its glory, mountainous scenery, pale rock faces with waterfalls, crested with snow, just jaw-droppingly gorgeous! The four of us decided to go up on deck to make the most of our incredible surroundings, with clear blue skies, the water reflected back perfect pictures. It was one of those "gulp" kind of moments that brings you close to tears, just spectacular!!!!!

After breakfast we went ashore to explore the small town of Flam and take the 20km railway trip from its base, just 2 metres above sea level, climbing up almost 900 metres offering scenic views as we travelled through a number of small stations up to Myrdal at the top, where locals go to catch a train to Bergen from their beautiful isolation.

Once back down into the harbour, we had a lovely cappuccino sat beside the fjord. Before this holiday I had been looking for a body-warmer but couldn't find what I wanted, well I found it today in Flam, duck down, soft and lightweight, perfect :-)

Back on board now, ready for sail away, almost everyone back on board. Tonight we are having a celebratory birthday meal in Atul Kuchers Indian restaurant ....should be very nice. Well that's it for today, off for the cocktail of the day and our sail way :-)

This really is worth a look large :-)
