Wild herbs
FSD's Wednesday Club had a gathering at Haihara where we had a short introduction course about wild herbs. Biologist Jonna Niiniaho led us a guided tour where she introduced us the most common wild herbs and how to use them.
In the picture is a baby fireweed. Fireweed is best eaten young when the leaves are tender. When the plant is as small as in the picture, fireweed can be cooked like asparagus. The flowers and seeds have a peppery taste. Fireweed is a great source of vitamins A and C.
