Monorail Monday

Off to Erkheim for the morning walk when spotted a strange sight on the railway line heading towards Memmingen. Quickly stopped on the flyover but it was already too far away to get a meaningful photo.

But being a true Blipper, I then risked life and limp (my coffee in a normal lidless cup and two dogs without seatbelts on) to get a better photo. Once caught up alongside it near Westerheim but the quality still not good, so onwards trying to keep to speed limits and head on out to Ungershausen and the road crossing which goes to Memmingen airport and where I always get stopped by passing trains.

Got there just in time to get this photo and one more in the extras which showed that the Unimog, with a set of extra railtrack wheels was spraying something on parts of the track.

Back home found out that the old 1815 founded company now based in Hamburg and wholly owned by a Japanese company, makes fertilisers but overwhelmingly pesticides, herbicides and treatment products based mainly around copper. Antifouling for boats, wood preservatives and they also specialise in spraying railway tracks to keep down weeds. In winter they also have specialised trains which together with several of thes Unimogs, do tree and shrub clearance along the railway tracks.

Nice to find something different and also good that the sun made an appearance and made the walk, once the dogs had recovered from the mad dash, very pleasant.
