Vindelici Country

The Vindelici were a Celtic folk who inhabited these lands in the BC years. The stream is the River Mindel which springs just a few hundred meters away behind the farmhouse/sawmill on the right of the photo.

Like yesterdays River Günz, it also flows north and enters the Danube at Günzburg. And again like yesterdays Blip, this part of the Mindel valley is conservation area, I think owned by the council and rented out to farmers. Here the land is all in the hands of Karl and his sheep, a few horses and most recently a couple of Jersey calves he has bought to fatten up.

Some will remember my Blips over the last year detailing how I got to meet the sheep farmer who lives at the farmhouse and who I have got to know quite well. We seem to get on very well and it's always a great pleasure to visit him.

Had done a morning walk in Erkheim and there followed a very long talk at the agricultural merchants as I popped in to see if they had a good deal on a used tractor. Nothing but that might change soon. Quickly home for lunch and after a short snooze for the dogs, set off again to the farm. Greeted by Karls border collie and another visiting BC from his children.

Quick chat with Karl and then took off for a walk and finally through the meadows, across the river and amongst the sheep. Luna as usual wasn't interested but Flask knew somehow that he ought to be interested and went very close to inspect the wooly beings.

By the time we got back to the farmhouse, the wood fired oven had been lit, son and girlfriend had returned from shopping for Karl and had prepared a quick meat/spaghetti dish. It smelt wonderful and they insisted I sat down, drink an alcohol free shandy and get a portion of food inside me. Delicious.

Didn't get home until 20:30, Angie had got home and done all the horse stable work.
