Train Spotter

I have been train spotting again. Okay, perhaps a Metropolitan Line Underground train doesn’t have quite the same aura of the mighty steam locomotives of a few years past.
But to the railway fan, it is still a train and particularly when seen above ground commands an unlikely presence.
Blip followers will know I have become quite fond of these trains over the past few weeks and have been riding them quite regularly.
But having been brought up in the age of steam locomotives, I still yen for some of those mighty railway engines from the past. I had the privilege of riding on the footplate on one occasion — an awe inspiring experience, I doubt I will ever forget.
Nothing quite as grand as the Flying Scotsman which took to the tracks a couple of weeks ago, heading north from Kings Cross to York after a £4.2 million refurbishment and destined to be the jewel in the crown of the National Railway Museum.
It is due to come south in May, heading from London for Salisbury and making a round trip through Hampshire to Southampton and back. Tickets are already sold out for the nostalgic journey, yet even as a spectator, I can’t wait.

Again camera will be at the ready. And I know I can anticipate photographs with lots of atmosphere.
