my sister's birthday

Got up to 4 grise du vercors chicks this morning, but no sign of the hens I got Carrie for her birthday hatching out. A couple had pipped yesterday, but they didn't seem to be moving at all now...

Had breakfast, made birthday cards with the girls for their mum and brought them up to Carrie for her birthday breakfast in bed.

Came back downstairs and one of the birthday Goldlaces had hatched!!! So delighted. I'd ordered 12, so would've been gutted if we'd not even got one!

Headed home and got myself ready for lunch. We got to the restaurant for 12 and we were there until after 3pm. Such amazing food! The kids got great dishes as well.

Back to the house to check on mum and dad's poorly hen, then finally let their chicks out. Dad's been putting it off, but they're getting older and need to be able to roam free. We let them out and the other adults (who've been outside for years!) seemed fine. We think it's because the chicks are 95% cocks, so the hens will not mess with them even if they are younger than them!

This is my sis just before her, Paddy and the kids set off home this evening. Great day.
