Palm trees in my flowerpot ......

Not really palm trees but miniature parts of the liverwort.

...... I found these miniature 'palm trees' had now developed. These are for the next stage of the life cycle growing out of the little saucer shapes on the thalus and produce the male and female parts of the liverwort. The male spores swim towards the female when rain or dew provides some water. Once there they unite to form a single gamete. This. when mature, goes on to form a new liverwort
