Fearnley Mill

After days trapped indoors by the rain, today was mostly fine so a trip out was essential. I walked about 8 miles in an area between Brighouse and Huddersfield. This took in the lovely little village of Hartshead, in whose churchyard there was an amazing old tree. Hartshead is more famous for its nearby M62 Service Station. I almost blipped these cameras. The walk also went across a tree-lined golf course.

But Fearnley Mill took pride of place for its splendid chimney, glinting in the sunshine. The steel plate beside it bears the name "Witter and Son, Bolton." My researches show that they were fire protection engineers so I wonder whether the plate is actually one side of a water tank. The Mill itself is now apartments.
