The smoke that thunders

Following up on the morning spent wandering around the falls yesterday, today was the day for the Vic Falls hotel.  Probably my favourite hotel.  In my view, it’s pretty much as impressive as Victoria Falls.  Pure and utter colonial grandeur and, again in my view, as essential as actually seeing the Falls when it comes to being a tourist.

We spent the afternoon there, admiring the view - which the photo is of - as well as admiring the hotel itself.   Dirk reminisced about birthday dinners at the hotel after a dip in the pool and a quick change of clothes into something smart after the drive up from Hwange.  Whilst Mum and Dad dined in style at the hotel restaurant, we went cheap and cheerful and had Thai – this time we managed to eat out rather than having it as a take-away.  We did end our evening with cocktails on the verandah at Victoria Falls hotel as we waited for Mum and Dad. As we sipped our cocktails (the best I’ve had), I tried, quite hard, to persuade my husband that one day, he should take me to stay at the Vic Falls hotel for a few nights.  I think I’m in for years of persuasion on this one.
