Audio tech

I'm big into high-resolution music downloads, and most of my listening these days is driven by my (rather large) iTunes collection.

For one reason and another, though, I still occasionally buy actual CDs, or, as in this case, something a little bit different. To be honest, this will probably end up being a once-off purchase. It's a Pure Audio BluRay disc. As it says on the label, the technology allows over 3 hours of music to fit onto a single disc.

Mind you, I'd never heard of this composer before, and I'd only listened to minute-long samples of some of the tracks. I admit I took the plunge mainly out of curiosity. It sure sounds good, but I'm really not at sure about the music.

Incidentally, 2L, the company who released this, is based in Norway and is probably the leading source for high-end sound recording. They are enthusiastic exponents of surround sound, and are constantly experimenting with unorthodox microphone placement which results in an immersive listening experience (or so the hi-fi writers tell me -- I don't have a surround system, so I can't vouch for it).
