Leaving Waiheke
Not a huge island and easy to get around on a bike you would think. We found it difficult to make much progress though and were always stopping. Yes it was hot and the hills were frequent and steep, but there was always something worth looking at every few miles. Cafés got priority of course, but there were also wineries, restaurants, expensive clothes shops, wildlife, bays and stunning views over to the mainland to distract us. We were sad to leave the island and would love to have an excuse to come back sometime in the future. We just need to hook up with some wealthy Auckland accountant who has a holiday home here, but they are thin on the ground I am told.
