Pohutukawa in St Heliers
Would you park your car under these massive limbs? The locals here do. They know that these trees have been around longer than cars have parked on this street so probably there is no risk involved. Personally I try to walk on the other side of the road - you get a better view of the trees from there. I am reminded of The Australian Ghost Gum trees that we saw in Australia which are sometimes called the "widow maker", due to the high number of "tree-felling workers" who are killed by falling branches. Many deaths are actually caused by simply camping under them, as the trees shed whole and very large branches to save water during droughts. They get lots of droughts in Australia...
However, these are not those trees and we are not in a drought, though the weather is sultry and too hot for visitors from the north of the northern hemisphere. We did some Body Weight Circuit training in the late afternoon and spent the rest of the day trying to rehydrate. Not easy in a house with dodgy Air Con.
