Up Helly Aa 2016 Procession

the snow from America arrived today, no snow just rain and it poured for the most of the day.  It has cleared up this evening.

It's been a really busy day in the museum today, over 1,000 visitors in the door.  We have been packed out with school groups and wet tourists.  We had music in the afternoon for guests waiting for the Jarl squad to arrive and we also got a visit from the Junior Jarl Squad too.  No Up Helly Aa parties for me, I'm off to work in the pub tonight and also have to work in the museum in the morning.

This evening I went to watch the Up Helly Aa procession with friends Julie and Shannon, also met mam and nieces Eve and Elise.  Thankfully the rain stopped for the duration of the procession and it wasn't too windy either.  This is some of the squads with their torches.  There's about 1'000 men marching through the streets of Lerwick with torches, a great sight every year :)  Taken on King Harald Street, Lerwick.
