Lake Nakuru National Park

Early start for a full day's game drive at Lake Nakuru, about 30 minutes away. The national park (285 km sq) is world-renowned for its teeming flamingo population made famous by Denys Finch Hatton's flight over it in the film 'Out of Africa'. However, there were only a few greater and lesser flamingos left as the water had become too fresh with loads of rain! As well as the few flamingos, we saw loads of pelicans, and maribou storks which were really interesting to watch. Our leaders then drove us all around the lake and declared it was like a zoo, as we saw a black rhino, a few white rhino, giraffes, zebras, baboons, and many others!
On the way back we stopped off at a curio shop where we bought an ebony hippo, and it started to rain heavily as we got back to the hotel, so the staff gave out huge umbrellas for us to use to reach our rooms!
