The Phoenix Rises

Te puia

The largest natural geyser and it's side kick in the southern hemisphere.
The Pohutu geyser and the Prince of Wales feathers, which is the indicator of the large geyser about to erupt were doing their stuff for 2 hours. Our guide explained that geo thermal activity is increasing since the the introduction of regulation of bore holes for local use was banned. The even larger geyser that had stopped erupting was beginning to show activity. It didn't stop the locals swimming in the pools below it.
This was our first day away on our travels with the Auckland Callaghans and The Carnoustie two.
The A.C.s were supposed to be zorbing, but they couldn't due to the fact they forgot to take their swimming cossies. They ended up doing a tree top walk in the red woods.
Dinner was at Eat street in a Thai restaurant, which was very acceptable. The bike Christmas tree was very blip worthy, but the geyser was superb.
The cabin in the caravan park was small and the family very kindly let us have the comfy bedroom where we crashed out, somewhat exhausted.
