Eight days a week
I got my renewal letter through for my indemnity insurance and almost fell off my seat; it's gone up £110 from last year!!
I still find it scandalous that I have to pay to be able to go to work, on top of indemnity I also have to pay registration to the General Dental Council. What a perk!
Closer inspection of my renewal showed that they have me listed as working 6 sessions a week as a dental therapist and 10 sessions a week as a dental nurse.
One session is either a morning or an afternoon, so based on their calculations, I'm doing an 8 day week!
I rang them to update my details, mainly to say I don't ever work as a nurse and only requested it to be added to my qualifications as a 'just in case'.
Lucky me, I got the office jobsworth who wanted to know when I had quit as a nurse. I told her that other than a couple of sessions to help out for short staff situations, I hadn't dental nursed for a while and couldn't put an exact date on it.
She also wanted me to say how many sessions I work as a hygienist and how many as a therapist; that's a tough one as at the moment I do 3 days a week (6 sessions) where the work load is mixed.
This wasn't the answer she wanted though so I had to guestimate a figure which will no doubt void my insurance in the event of a claim. It annoyed me, as they only deal with dental professionals so they should know it's not so clear cut.
She was unable to tell me how much my premium will be after the changes were made, as my details have to be sent to the underwriters for approval since I'd 'downgraded' my policy!
No....I just told you I'm not a nurse and I don't work 8 days a week!
It certainly feels like I do sometimes, but thankfully not!
