The definition of this wonderful Welsh word is soo meaningful. Its snuggling and cuddling and loving and protecting and safeguarding and claiming, all rolled into one. There is an element of initmacy, earnestness and ownership in the Welsh word that the closest English equivelants, cuddle, snuggle and hug completely lack.
So give me a CWTCH anyday!!
I saw this ornament for sale in a fab local gift shop which is just round the corner from the Royal Mint where all our coins are made, and I couldn't resist buying it along with another one which spells out the welsh word cariad which means sweetheart, darling or love. Such beautiful Welsh words with so much heartfelt meaning when you hear them spoken.
And for all you non Welsh folk; cwtch is pronounced as butch but with the obvious C and cariad is pronounced careeadd!!!
