More cabbages

I may have Blipped this before, but nobody will remember!

This is our biggest and best cabbage tree, Cordyline australis, from New Zealand. I suppose it's probably the most commonly planted 'exotic' really - it looks quite different from most European shrubs. We occasionally find seedlings so it must set seed, though whenever I look for seed to collect for sale I don't find any!

Pretty tough, but smaller plants have been damaged in our coldest winters.

My second picture is of one of my favourite fuchsias - 'Corallina', from about 1844. It's a hybrid of F. globosa and F. cordifolia and is hardy and quite low-growing.
