An island in the sun

Got up rather late today and had a mad rush along to Fionnphort to catch the ferry to Iona. We needn't have worried - there was a long queue of people wanting to board so they had to come back for the rest of us!

I was mentally criticising three Cockney coach drivers who were making a lot of noise behind us in the queue, but had to take it all back when one of them came up and handed out free tickets to a number of us - spare tickets from a block booking, it seems! 'Don't spend your money', he said.

In spite of aching joints, Sheila and I walked up to the top of Iona's highest hill, Dun I, 331ft, where we had a picnic in glorious sunshine under a sky of the most amazing clouds. On the way back we visited the Abbey where we marvelled at the wonderful work of restoration of some of the carving around the cloisters. Good to see that there are still such skilled craftsmen about!

A beautiful day on a lovely island.
