View from the Castle - Last full day in Lisbon

Lisbon is built on seven hills, and the Castelo de Sao Jorge, although not the highest hill, gives great panorama of all of Lisbon from its ramparts.  Jumped on our favourite little Tram 28 to get up the hill to there, but before going in we stopped off for a coffee and second breakfast at the Cafe at Hotel Santiago, which sits in a quiet street at the edge of Alfama.  Lovely friendly waiter had a chat with us again, he seems to know everything about anything :-)

The castle wasn't too busy, and the clouds lifted to give us brilliant views over the rooftops, and we could see all the different areas of the City, the bridge were near at Belem yesterday and the River Tagus, sparkling in the sunshine.  It was nice sitting at the ramparts in the sunshine taking time to enjoy the view.

We wandered  again, deciding to make our way to Baxia area for some lunch.  Found at lovely restaurant called Babette and sat outdoors.  The food again was fantastic.  I must say have been surprised how good it has been, I much prefer it to Italian, there are lots of dishes I wouldn't have thought of making that have tasted wonderful.  There are so many restaurants and Cafe it's difficult to know what one to choose but we had an app from the establishment we stayed with and you press restaurant and it knows what area you are in and gives a choice of good ones.

After lunch we walked to another viewpoint called Miradouro de Sao Pedro de Alcantra and from there we could see the Castelo in the distance and could see just how far we had walked!  Then wandered up the Avenida which had a tree lined walkway.  This is the main avenue for traffic and it has all the designer shops on either side and then further up loads of the big hotels.  So glad didn't stay in a hotel up here as it's all so modern and not the same atmosphere as the old area of town.   Sat at a nice quiet square to recharge and looked up at the massive old viaduct then stopped for a coffee in a place called Copenhagen a couple of streets from our place.

Decided to go back to the restaurant we went on our first night to end the holiday and had a good meal in atmospheric surroundings.  It's been good no cooking for a week.  It's not a holiday if you have to stand over a cooker, eating out is part of the holiday experience :-)

Unfortunately there was a drizzle as we walked to the Barrio Alto and as the pavements in the old town are made from little smooth white cobbles the littlest bit of rain makes them lethal.  With me wearing converse it was so easy to fall if you weren't being careful and I took a tumble!  Landed on the most padded area sideways so only rattled my elbow on a step so was ok, just some bruises.  A waiter from a restaurant came rushing over to see if I was ok and if he could help which was nice of him but I was fine.  No bones broken!  Just had to walk carefully,.....

Home to pack and alarm set for 7am next morning :-(
