Diary of an Edinburgher

Beach visit

The Indian Summer is over. Hopefully only temporarily while the haar rolls in, but it can hang around for days while the rest of the country is basking in sunshine.

However, Archie and I had our appointment at Porty Beach with Betty and Ben. Except he's not Ben, but Joe. Sorry Joe.

We had our walk along the beach. I wasn't tempted to have a coffee and bacon bap at the caravan like last time, because this time they provided muzak for my 'listening pleasure.' No thanks. I'd rather hear the sea, and even a seagull or two.

We met lots of dogs and owners. Betty seemed to know them all. We also met Ian, a local dog walker, with his pack of dogs. He told us about a fishy treat that dogs LOVE, and he had some with him. The wee Westie is chewing away on his fishy treat. I'm going to buy some.

Betty invited me to her house for a cuppa. Huge lounge with big bay window looking out to sea. Fabulous. She thinks she's 'died and gone to heaven', living right on the beach, surrounded by her late husband's marvellous art collection (including an original Dali etching!) and photos. There was a photo of her as a young woman carrying a big backpack, posing on top of huge jaggedy mountains. It's so poignant when you meet an older person, and are quietly reminded that they were once young, beautiful, energetic and amazing.

Back home on the bus, and I had the misfortune to come past the shop at the school interval. I could see a crowd of schoolchildren yobs standing outside the shop, chucking litter down. They had moved on by the time I reached them, and the shop staff were getting ready to go out and clean it all up. I suggested that they should ring the school and complain - it hadn't occurred to them that they should. I rang the school as soon as I got home. All senior staff were 'in a meeting' but hopefully someone will get back to me this afternoon.

The new iPhone is being returned. To be replaced by a better one - 8GB of memory is almost pointless. Pointless having a pointless phone.
