twinned with trumpton

Just before 1100 on Thursday - we stepped off the train in Milngavie
Just after 1100 On Monday, we're on the platform in Fort William.

In the intervening 96 hours, we walked the 96 miles of the West Highland Way. A bit of time to relax together....

Day 2; the big one.
With the big bag being shipped for the day, it was out and into a long day before 8; a day of four quarters. First stage was to Rowardennan; calm shores of Loch Lomond, no midges and sun out in bursts.

Then the fun started; as the road ends, the path arrows, twists, climbs, drops. Eventually we stumbled across the waterfall at Inversnaid and past the hotel which reminded me strongly of the Great Northern from Twin Peaks...!

Stage 3 was hell; nasty stuff, and very difficult to get any rhythm going. Still all in trees, no views, just strength and morale sapping stuff.

Eventually we passed Bein Glas and the final 7 miles was tedious and painful. Actually, it was pleasant enough but just 7 miles too far.

Crianlarich saw us stagger into the youth hostel, shower, cook, and sleep. Tough tough tough.

47 miles down, 49 left. Done in 10 and a half hours. The rest will be a breeze after this...!

A cliché taken on the banks of Loch Lomond
