Extraordinary Day

Back in 1923 my Grandmother had a home built in the Hollywood Hills for herself and her two daughters, my Aunt Myra and my Mother, Marjorie.  All my life my mother talked about her years living in that house beginning when she was about 12 to the time she married my father and moved out.  Her wonderful descriptions of that home and her life in it were some of my favorite things to hear.

My son and I recently contacted the present owner and he graciously invited us to come see the inside of the house.  We had made contact some years back but had never been able to manage a visit.  So, here we are in California with this delightful gentleman who was just charming. The house has been updated but not changed and still retains all the charming details I remember hearing about, including the music room where my mother and aunt played the piano, the lovely balcony they used to sit on with their dogs, the fountain in the back yard and the little architectural details make the house so unique.

The present owner, Morgan, has been in the house for 54 years and will celebrate his 90th birthday in a couple weeks.  He has had an illustrious and amazing career as an actor with over 300 movies and TV shows to his credit and he's still going strong. He told us he had just finished filming a music video a couple days earlier and he still has autograph signings.

It was a lovely, lovely day, one I will cherish for a long time.  I worked very hard not to get emotional as I walked through the rooms my family had lived in.  I somehow felt a circle had been completed and my mother would be smiling if she could see me in the house.  It was very, very special.
