M'cr Curious.....

I'm involved with an event that's happening in Manchester at the beginning of the next month. It's called Manchester Curious and is a celebration of Manchester's secret spaces. Apart from that I'm not sure what is going to actually happen. I'll know a bit more tonight after I go to a meeting about it. 'What Is Manchester Curious?
A Celebration of Manchester's Secret Spaces.

The inaugral Manchester Architecture Festival takes place in October 2015. Manchester Curious aims to open special buildings and spaces in Manchester to the public, to engage the public in architecture by making it accessible, and by highlighting the value of architecture.

Manchester is world famous for its buildings. It has everything from the historic: Manchester Cathedral, Chethams School of Music, John Rylands Library, and Manchester Town Hall, to the modern: Beetham Tower, URBIS, One Angel Square, 1 and 2 St Peter's Square, not to mention the numerous Modernist buildings such as the Toastrack. There are also hundreds of lesser known, but equally fascinating, spaces within the city. As the Festival develops, Manchester Curious intends make it possible for students of architecture, Urban Explorers, and the general public to access a broad range of these buildings and spaces; whether they be towering in the sky or deep underground.'

As part of the run up I've been taking pictures of bits of Manchester and tweeting them to wet people's appetites. The idea is can you identify where these places are. The first was this clock and the curious stump (2nd picture) that are in the same place. I'd love to know what purpose the stone stump originally had. Any Ideas?
