Tumbling Down

This green wall is part of a beloved old building in St Johns. I only know it's history since I moved here 26 years ago. Then it was a five-and-dime/crafts/fabric/junk store filled to the brim including the basement. Pipe cleaners for a costume? How about a bit of corduroy to cover an old footstool? You could find anything there. A sad day when that place closed. Next the long-time North Portland bicycle shop moved in and that's where we bought our tandem bike. That was a nice phase. They moved out and for a short time a disc golf shop called Huk Lab moved in. Now it's empty and will be torn down to be replaced by a four-story building with over 100 apartments, not enough underground parking, and no more beautiful green wall I like so much. The only bright spot in this is that for the rest of the month you can see the great photographs of Bobby Abramson and other photographers hanging in the building.
