Mom's 100th
Today my mother would have been one hundred years old. We kids (she raised nine of us, and we are all still around, ranging from 74 to 62) spent the day emailing pictures and talking about her. The favorite story seems to be the time she decided to run away, but most of the kids got into the car with her. She, famously, never did learn to drive; did very little of it. But on this day, she headed for town (population 300), two miles from the farm, but didn't know how to shift, so her arrival into town was preceeded by a howling engine still in first gear. Mostly, my mother was sweet, very shy, happy, and would have loved you if she'd known you.
Here she is with her first granddaughter when she was 50.
