Coit Tower

A view of the Coit Tower. The tower was built in 1933 with funds left to the city by an a wealthy heiress. It is claimed the tower is meant to resemble the end of a fire hose nozzle. Lillie Hitchcock Coit was rescued from a fire as a child, and remained attached to the Fire Department for the rest of her life. A description of the tower can be found here.

The only way to the top of the tower is by a lift holding only eight people. Consequently there is quite a long queue. I think it must have been about an hour. The views from the top are fantastic, and I have included a couple of photos in the extra photos section.

Although the day is warm and sunny in the city it was quite cold when we were on the top deck of an open bus crossing the Golden Gate Bridge.
