Union Canal, Edinburgh

Began the day with a good run around Threipmuir and Harlaw Reservoirs first thing in sparking sunshine. Clouds bubbled up during the morning with rain falling while we were all busy preparing food for Doreen's big 90th birthday bash tomorrow.

We eventually finished at about 3.00pm giving time for us to consider that to do with the remainder of the day. I had an appointment with a scone in John Lewis's using a voucher that ended today. Not wanting to waste the opportunity we decided to drive down to Slateford, park the car, walk into Edinburgh along the Union Canal. The canal is extremely interesting and very pretty in places with some good developments along the banks. Becoming quite vibrant towards the terminal basin near where this shot was taken.

We had to hotfoot it along the canal as we weren't sure what time JL closed. In the end we made it with 10 minutes to spare after a brisk 5 mile walk along the canal and through the streets of Edinburgh to JL. The scone and cup of tea were very welcome with the scone being excellent but different to the English version.

Our return to pick up the car was by bus, but we were caught in a huge jam owing to faulty traffic lights stuck on red in our direction. Eventually arrived back I time for f a fish and chip supper.
