The Journey to Elgol
Thursday. Today we had arranged to meet my friend Tim at the village hall in Ardvasar, on the Sleat Peninsula, where they were having a charity lunch. We thought it would be good to drive down the single track road to Elgol, where we had been many years ago, before going to meet him. The traffic was so continuous, however, that we turned back while only half-way there, not wanting to add to the tourist nightmare down at the end of the road. We stopped by this lovely reed-fringed lochan, Loch Cill Chriosd, for a cup of tea though.
After lunch we visited the Clan Donald Centre, where Tim was once Head Gardener, before enjoying some orchid spotting along the verges of the road down to Aird - Greater Butterfly orchids and Twayblades in profusion.
Tim was rehearsing in the evening for a performance of 'The Gondoliers' and was persuaded to pose with his gondolier's hat! I've used this for my extra picture today!
