The Old Man
Having decided to get off the Long Island to avoid being caught out by the CalMac ferry strike, we arrived at Uig on Skye on Wednesday morning and went straight to the Tourist Information in Portree to find a B&B for the night. 'Absolutely nothing in Skye', we were told, 'nothing in Portree, nothing in Broadford', where we'd hoped to stay for our second night. Nothing registered with the Tourist Information maybe, but we found a lovely place just across the road and checked in.
We drove up the Trotternish peninsula, passing the wonderful rock formation known as the Storr, with the solitary 'Old Man' leaning out towards the sea. We spent several relaxing hours sitting in the sun above the beach before heading back to Portree.
The colourful shop of 'Skye Batiks' lured us in - a feast of colour and design. The owner is married to a Sri Lankan lady and hanging from the ceiling is a genuine out-rigger canoe which was brought back in a container. This is my extra picture for today.
