Fjord Cruising
We outdid ourselves today by getting up early (pretty unusual for us!) and boarding the 8am Hellesylt to Geiranger boat. We sailed along Geirangerfjord and marvelled at the waterfalls, farms on cliff edges and sheer magnificence of the area.
We were also really well entertained by a group of tourists with selfie sticks who were seemingly oblivious to everyone around them and didn't hold back in posing for photographs.
We sailed back again to Hellesylt and packed up and headed north (another ferry) to Ålesund.
This town was destroyed by fire in 1904 leaving 10 000 out of 12 000 people homeless. The new town was built remarkably quickly by the many architects and craftsmen who streamed into the town in the hope of finding work after the fire. As a result there is a diverse range of Art Nouveau buildings.
After a wander through the town and a look at a luxury yacht that is sitting at the pier (price ticket £70million - we won't be trading inour motorhome!) we went out for dinner (we may need to trade in our motorhome!).
Heading North tomorrow hopefully.
Things to remember about today:-
Semi-Q wearing protective clothing against being dive bombed by seagulls
Baby seagulls
Very chocolatey cookies
Getting to the ferry just in time
Grumpy man serving food on the car ferry
Amazing viewpoints
Happy Birthday Aunt Margaret if you're looking in!
