Hiding the evidence

When I took the dogs out for their walk, we found that finally someone in authority has decided that the recently constructed concrete channel for the river (which peters out just beyond this photo) should be cleared of the accumulated plant growth and rocks.

On the way back down the hill, I asked the overseer what was going on. And naturally, it turns out that the only reason they're doing anything is because the mayor and the state governor (who don't deserve capitals) are due to visit in the next couple of days. After that, the situation will probably just deteriorate again.
