Yellow bird, up high...

...or maybe not. This one's called a 'Ground canary', Latin name Sicalis flaveola brasilienses, and I was tickled pink to find that the ones around the clubhouse were far less shy than any I've seen nearer home, or out on the course. They let me wander quite close with the camera, and were far more interested in collecting grass seeds than in a strange foreigner pointing a box at them.

It seems that practice may indeed be beneficial to one's golf game - I went out today and played better than I have done in many months, if not years. I also took a caddy and he gave me lots of excellent advice and encouragement, with the result that I won this month's edition of the Friendship Cup, and five nice new golf balls. Very satisfactory.

Yesterday, in the supermarket, we bumped into one of the young 'monitors' from our choir and her boyfriend, so we asked them up for tea, drinks, snacks or whatever this evening. We were a bit surprised not to hear from them at the appointed time, and it wasn't until an hour later that I realised my phone was still in the car. Ooops - about five missed called and a couple of messages.

It all came right in the end, though, and we worked our way through tea and chocolate cake to pizza and wine or beer.
