Guimaraes
The wind subsided but we woke to deep, wet fog. Getting into Leixoes, the port of Porto, we lost all visibility and the Captain said it had been tricky.
I love Porto but I wanted to return to Guimaraes, a beautiful town, restored, and now a UNESCO World Heritage site. In the Minho region, it has been called "the cradle of Portugal." I wanted to see it in the sparkling sunshine and, as you can see, the fog went and it was glorious.
The Ducal Palace, the Castle - and the town itself - are all worth a visit.
I had an enormous glass of the local Vinho Verde (the best I've ever tasted) for the same price as my espresso in Lipari. Sezim - remember the name.
Heading for Portsmouth in a couple of hours.....
