One species each day (from my backyard)
These ferns have also been around ever since we've been here and they spread wherever they're left in peace. We have to dig them out some now and then. Apparently they are an introduced species: Dryopteris filix-mas. I had to photograph them though and show some of it's characteristic features, so I turned one of the leaves upside down to show the two rows of sori. The ferns grow mostly in the shade of my study, with no sun in winter and only late afternoon and evening sun in summer. They die off in winter and develop new fresh green fronds again in spring.
