Chateau de Chillon

The pace of moving around is picking up as the week goes on. I only planned 24h in Lausanne but plan to come back later in the week to see the Olympic museum when it's raining. It's easy enough to move around the lake with regional day tickets.

After a walking tour around Lausanne I moved further east around the lake to Vevey. I took a boat out to this picturesque castle and then walked back around the lake to Montreux before getting a train back to Vevey - taking full advantage of my day ticket. There seemed to be some sort of beer festival on so I tried a berry beer before retiring to my lakeside hostel.

One of the downsides to travelling alone (particularly as a female) is you don't really get to see places at night, just to be on the safe side. Luckily in the hostels I've been staying in there have been like-minded girls who I've had fun getting to know - exchanging lists of places we've been, passing on tips for things to do etc. In my dorm tonight I met a PhD student working in the same research area as my placement project! Small world!
