Walk and eat
I walked at least half an hour in the intense humidity, through the busy, polluted streets of Medan to get to a restaurant for lunch. It was immediately clear that people don't walk around this city. Pavements were intermittent and the road was mildly dangerous.
I had some delicious dim sum followed by a durian pancake which I loved. Both were the specialities of the restaurant. I went back to my room to escape the massive storms and then in the evening got a bentor (similar to a tuk tuk) to Merdeka Walk, a popular area of restaurants and food stalls. The food was once again spicy and tasty.
