Small but Perfectly Formed Cinema
Working today, a bit of library stuff but mainly helping out with The Small Cinema. An inspiring and brilliant project that brings films to Oldham.
Big screen in the Performance Space in the library, excellent sound and even the red rope! Tickets are affordable and no opportunity to spend a £10 on Pic and Mix.
First showing was Peter Pan...and if anyone needed convincing of the power of film...the sound of the little kids cheering whenever Captain Hook ended up in the Croc's mouth should prove it. It was really funny and heart warming.
I wasn't as keen to watch the matinee of Singing in the Rain. I'm not a musical fan.... but I LOVED it! I'm sure Gene Kelly being so easy on the eye helped too.
Some people came to watch on their own and I spoke to a lovely lady who was so pleased to be able watch a classic film because her TV was broke. She was an older lady but said watching the film reminded her of being taken to the pictures by her mum and dad. She was going to tell a friend of hers who is having a bit of a bad time at the moment to watch Singing in the Rain as ' a bit of a tonic'
Everyone had a great time. Some memories were made and some were remembered.
A strong determined student with a passion for movies created The Small Cinema -bringing film to Oldham - a town without a cineworld*
The whole team behind it should be proud of themselves tonight. They did well. they improved peoples lives.
They are having a drive in movie night soon! A DRIVE IN. Fab.
If the next Drive in movie is Grease I may take some lessons in Miss A's Figaro.
Blip...Hellooooo Mr Kelly!
;-)
*I would always rather see a Small Cinema film or pitch up at the Picturedrome in Holmfirth. Beats Cineworld hands down every time.
