A view of the Mendips.

Today we stayed in England and went south of Bristol into Somerset.

Daughter Grace travels everyday to Cheddar to work so we decided to take a look as it is over 30 years since we saw Cheddar Gorge and therefore made it our first stop this morning. We saw the wild goats on the cliffs and on the road, reminiscent of our recent trip to the Tramuntana mountains in Majorca. The gorge cuts through the Mendip Hills which can be seen in the back ground of this shot taken at Clevedon Court.

We had planned to visit here, not far from the Somerset coast after seeing the gorge but we forgot it was only open from 2 till 5 in the afternoon. Arriving too early we went into Clevedon itself, first visited 3 months ago with John and Grace, had a blowy walk on the pier and, as we were at the seaside, had fish (plaice) and chips for lunch.


On return we toured this former mediaeval manor house and then the terraced gardens seen here at the back. This shows the back of the house and one of the lovely magnolias and a white lilac. There was also a white wisteria which I have never seen before. An attractive garden and lovely views but what you can't see here is the noise from the nearby M5! You can see how close it is on the map.

At the front of the house was a wild flower plot full of blue, white and pink bells. You can see it in today's extra photo.

After a dreadful forecast for the whole week,we have had another lovely day!
