Bright and breezy in Wales.
There was heavy rain this morning but by 10.00 it was bright again. So we headed off back across the River Severn into Wales.
We were aiming for Brecon but after seeing Bob's Blips yesterday we decided to go via Caerphilly to take a look at the castle. It was worth the look. Situated in the centre of the town and surrounded by water it is a great feature and amenity. The ducks, swans and geese like it too!
In the Civil war in the 17th century, Cromwell declared all castles should be destroyed and this one retains a leaning tower resulting from the attempts to blow it up. Restoration took place in the early 20th century but the tower has been left split and crooked.
We continued through Rhonda to the Brecon Beacons National Park and Brecon itself. The weather continued bright and breezy and when I got out of the car here I nearly got blown away. One reason for visiting this area was because Alex, our son, was here twice during the winter on courses with the army.
The other side of the road from this great view is the military range. Red flags were, flying and we actually saw a bunch of guys in a ditch in camouflage gear! Low ever stron the wind I'm sure it was better up there today than back in January!
A lovely day of contrasts again.mgreat, scenery and history.
You can see a shot of the castle in the extra shot.
(Something else you see in Caerphilly is a statue of Tommy Cooper, he was born there.)
