Tuesday, April 28, 2015 -- Awards Ceremony
I love awards ceremonies -- haven't a clue why; it's simply in my DNA -- so when I read this notice in my college email
"Come celebrate with your co-workers as we acknowledge their years of service to Norco College and the District. As usual, Chef Kelly is preparing a wonderful selection of finger foods for the reception. You won’t want to miss it!"
I immediately planned to attend. Awards were given to those who last June had reached 5, 10, 15, 20, or 25 years of employment service. The president of the college, Dr. Parnell, emceed the event. He is one of the happiest, friendliest, outgoing people at Norco College. He loves to tell stories and he treats us all like family.
He started to tell one story that happened this past January when a group from our college went to Florida to accept a prestigious national award; as he started the story a couple of our female VPs kidded him that they thought that story would "stay in the car." Dr. Parnell paused, looked at all of us in the auditorium, and said, "Everyone, we're all in the car, we're all family," and then proceeded to tell the story. The moment was woven with fun.
I had entirely too many student papers that needed grading, plenty of prepping to do, and an office that always needs the clutter eliminated, so I should not have been attending the ceremony, but I'm glad I did.
I'm currently finishing my 24th year at the college. In two years I'll be at the awards ceremony receiving my award for crossing the 25-year line -- if I don't retire before then, and I don't think I will.
Well, tomorrow -- the 29th -- Mr.Fun & I begin our month long celebration. May 29th will be our 50th Wedding Anniversary. "Some of it's been magic and some of it's been tragic," but I am so glad we're still married.
So that's my story for today.
From Southern California,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
