Drifting home at the end of the day.....
USA Tank loco comes back on shed after completing the day's trips on the KESR. Handing back the single line token to the Rolvenden signalman after rolling down the bank from Tenterden. All that remains for the crew to do now is put the engine away, which means cleaning out and preparing for its next duty, which may well be tomorrow.
I'd spent the day at Wittershm Road signalbox, a very pleasant day in the sunshine. The Sunday Pullman train was running today which is always a good thing when you're a signalman at Wittersham as a cup of soup is passed to you as it passes in one direction and a bag of roast potatoes in the other. Much anticipated and enjoyed.
Everything went well, and on time, which was good as we were going to see Feast of Fiddles at the Brook Theatre Chatham at 7.30 which was a bit tight as I left Rolvenden at 5.40 and to get home and have some tea and then we had to drive over to Chatham - eventually arriving with 10 minutes to spare.
