The Last Few Ridges

15.4C starting with a little cloud then clearing to sunny sunshine all day long. Zephyr.

Apothecary7's day off. We went into Dundee and after a quick visit to the M&S Simply Food we had a walk up to the Howff with Maeve the Deerhound. The Howff was mostly in sunshine and it was lovely to be there for a while and wander round. On the way back to the car we visited the Oxfam shop and got a book each.

After lunch we took Maeve for a walk. The field nearest our house was full of activity, as it had been since early morning. There were three tractors towing machines that were making the large rough ridges into two smaller well tilled ridges and then a fourth tractor was going round after them towing a huge machine that was planting the potatoes and looked as if it was applying liquid fertiliser too. At the top end of the field a tractor was taking away a trailer full of empty potato boxes, and there was a big forklift there too. As we walked up towards the church we could see some of the huge wooden boxes of potatoes near the hedge, all chitted and ready to go.

We went up to the church then continued out along the country road to Scryne before turning back. We turned left at Craigmill farm, where the large field across from the farm buildings was looking very neat with all the potato planting completed, and went down the track to the shore road. We walked along the cycle path and for a change went back up to the church road using the bridle path between two fields then back round to home. The tractors were creating and planting the last few ridges of potatoes.

Later Apothecary7 planted up another two big pots with pansies and I got the bush tomato seeds sown in small pots and also sowed some parsley (flat and curly) seeds. The greenhouse is starting to look busy.
