A Sobering Holiday
This morning we went to breakfast at a restaurant new to us and decided while we were eating that on our way back home, we'd stop by the local cemetery because it is Memorial Day here in the USA.
We neither one were prepared for the emotion that we both experienced as we moved out of car and onto the lawn. Mr. Fun turned to look at me and with his voice quivering and his eyes full of tears, he said, "I wasn't expecting this emotion." I couldn't even answer him; my voice and eyes were doing the same. I'm sure that parking our car near the grave of our dear friend Mike Wagner, who died in October 1969 when he was killed in a car accident, stoked those emotions.
The view at the graveyard today made it profoundly evident that freedom is not free; it comes at a very high cost. Thank you to everyone who has given of their time and their lives on behalf of freedom.
Good night from Southern California.
