...of the 496th Kiplingcotes Derby. Founded in 1519, it is
the oldest annual horse race in the English sporting
calendar and often attended in exceptionally adverse
weather conditions. But the ancient Rules prescribe
that to stay in existence it must be run every year on
the third Thursday in March failing which it will cease
to exist. The four mile gallop over rough terrain demands
fitness both of horse and rider. More than a little courage
too I suspect and any apprehension this young lady might
have seems to be well concealed.
