Before & After Series #2 - Kitchen

One of the rooms on the ground floor when we moved here was a truly hideous full bathroom, replete with avocado green tiles on the wall, and matching avocado fixtures.  The floor was ghastly -- dark brown ceramic tiles decorated with splodges of urine yellow!  To reach this room, you had to negotiate a space-gobbling, dark rabbit warren of a hallway with lots of large cupboards sporting bi-fold louvered doors.

We completely gutted the bathroom, along with the hallway, and turned that space into what is now our kitchen.  The photograph at top right shows the hallway and closets.  They stood where the kitchen peninsula is now located (where the two chairs are in the “after” view.)  The middle photograph at right shows the old bathroom sink and its shoddily made cabinet, along with a dodgy and ancient electric heater embedded in the wall.  Today, the same spot houses the cook top and microwave oven.  The bottom photo at right shows how ugly the tub and toilet were.  Our kitchen sink now stands approximately where the window can be seen in the “before” picture.

Oh, and the two large pieces of artwork on the wall were done by one of our sons when he was sixteen!
