Cornbrook Station...
Cornbrook is one of the most important stations on Manchester's growing tram system. It's where a lot of the lines converge and if you want to move from one line to the other, this is one of the most popular stations to do it. It's like Piccadilly on the London Tube. I was swapping from the Manchester Airport tram to one of the trams that would get me to St. Peter's Square.
The station has a reputation for being cold. It sits high above the former industrial land around the old Pomona Docks. This area links the city centre to Salford Quays. It catches the wind and the rain sweeping across the open land and there is little place to hide while waiting for your tram. This won't last. The city centre needs room to expand and the Quays are running out of development land. Plans are afoot to redevelop the area.
In this panorama of Pomona, you can see the towers of the Salford Quays on the left, while on the right you can see the Hilton Tower in the city centre.
