Cucumber, Banana, Tofu...

It's always weird seeing a place you live in on TV or in a movie. You sort of see the place you live in, in a different light. Since Media City has opened Manchester seems to be popping up all the time, in adverts, programmes and even in Hollywood movies where the Northern Quarter has stood in for New York City on more than one occasion.

More recently Manchester has just been being Manchester in Russell T Davies's depiction of gay life in the city, Cucumber, Banana, Tofu. Cucumber has had the main thrust of the story on Channel 4. You can then watch a programme called Banana that focuses on one of the characters from Cucumber and takes their story further. That's on E4. And Tofu is a documentary drama programme about gay life that's only found on the Internet. If you are wondering about the food stuff titles you need to watch the first episode of Cucumber where it was all explained. It's a bit rude...go figure....

This warehouse on Dale Street was the building used where Freddie, Dean and Henry lived in a too cheap to be true loft apartment, living the kinds of lives that we all imagine N4 hipsters live if all the N4 hipsters were gay of course.
