No possible misinterpretation of this notice on the window of Red Hot and Blue Tattoo parlour, within striking distance of the Dower House.

His Lordship views a tattoo as a terrible violation of the body beautiful. He cannot understand why any sane person would adorn their person with such images and no amount of suggestion that it is a fashion statement, just as is his moustache and beard, will sway him from his intractable view.

It is not just a modern fashion having been popular at different times.
My grandfather who spent his late teenage years in the merchant navy had two arms covered in tattoos of vases of flowers and probably the name of his beloved, although as a small child, I was never allowed to roll his sleeve far enough up to look any further than than the lower blooms because he was obviously embarrassed by the youthful ink work, and quickly rolled his sleeve down.

As for my opinion? I am liberally minded and accepting of the fashion, although I consider it a pain too far to consider following it.There are enough necessary needle interventions in life without opting for any extra. Besides which, I can't help wondering what the exquisite dragon or butterfly etched on to firm youthful skin will look like in the old folks' home when that same skin has lost its elasticity.
